NEWS BEFORE NEWS: DEATHS OF FOREST END OF CRITICAL CLIMATE PROTECTORS

Posted on October 1, 2011 by

Forests of various kinds worldwide are showing signs of severe distress and decline because of rising planet temperature and a lack of water. Millions of acres of forests in Texas burned this summer. The great euphorbia trees of southern Africa are also dying from heat and water stress. These forests and scores of others absorb more than a quarter of the carbon dioxide that is polluting the atmosphere through burning fossil fuels. Without the forests, the levels of carbon dioxide are expected to rise more quickly. Scientists are trying to track these events and their effect on the earth.
