Diaspora, the open source social network and Facebook challenger launches September 15. Diaspora will allow users to download its software package and install it on their own site or web hosting service. Those who are interested can host their own Diaspora site allowing you to control all of your own social networking on your own server. This will also afford greater control of privacy. Diaspora users can connect with each other and share content such as photos and is supposed to include a special encryption to make sure everything is protected while being sent. Diaspora was created by four New York University students and originally conceived as a summer project. The real question is whether it will be able to match Facebook which now has over 500 million users. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT DIASPORA’S PLANS AND WILL IT RIVAL FACEBOOK? (COMMENT BELOW).
