Called the Advanced Driving Alert System (ADAS), it involves the installation of a videocamera on the dashboard of the car which measures eye blinking speeds of the driver, degree of openess or where the driver is looking. If the driver is drowsy or distriacted from the road, there is a warning issued in the form of an audible signal to alert him or her of the dangerous situation. Reported in the Journal of Intelligent and Robotic Systems, ADAS is the brainchild of scientists working at The Department of Systems Engineering at the University of carlos III in Madrid.
